The Trib Charging for Contributing Members

Post  Admin on Wed Nov 24, 2010 7:58 am

The last I saw, the news that the Trib was going to start charging for their service generated hundreds of posts with the majority of them against their decision to start charging, so I am curious as to whether anyone has anything else left to say about the situation or if you guys are just totally drained on the topic.

In my opinion, they have every right to try to generate income from their efforts, but I also feel that the people who took the time and trouble to post were one of the biggest attractions and that their action is going to prove to be totally counterproductive to their stated goal.

I agree, they can't continue the "free" thing with newspaper subscription on a steep decline. My major hang up was I thought it was a little pricey.
And yes, I couldn't wait everyday to see the comments, they added Soooo much to the entertainment value of the news.
The Missourian won't post pictures and the pics and comments really made the whole experience enjoyable.

I think the Trib folks are smart, they know there will be a backlash at first but maybe they will compromise a little. You know the old trick when you want 50 bucks, ask for 100 and settle for 50.

I think you are dead on the money printrite, but they have slapped their forum contributors around a couple of times now. They could have continued on with a forum for those that cared enough to comment for little of nothing. It wasn't a major expense, but it was a big attraction. Squashing the forum was real similar to taking out those pictures of the perps, leaving out the obits or any other thing that attracts readers.

You can read the Trib to your heart's content. Won't take long, but just the same. If you don't have Google Chrome, download it. Then up in their upper right hand corner you will see a wrench. Press on the wrench and read the drop down. About one third the way down or less you will see the new google incognito window. Press that sucker and when it pops up type in the columbia tribune and then you can view it from that page all you want. If you exceed your limit, close out the page, and then do it all over again.
